Parent's Speak after Home-Orientation and De-Addiction Camp

Chandra Shekar Mother

“My son was wandering on the railway platforms for 2 year. He had called only once in the whole of last year. I was scared that one day he will die on the platform itself. I used to weep a lot for him.

But after this camp, there is a huge change in my child. He has become more respectful towards us (i.e.: parents) and has told us that he will now be at home and not move out. He has quit all the bad habits, which he earlier had.

Sathi has admitted him for vocational training and he is attending this regularly since the last 7 months. He works during free time and is giving the money to us. He expressed remorse over his past deeds. We are thankful to the SATHI team for the change in my child.”

What Pothappa’s
mother had to say?

“My son was wandering on the railway platforms in AP. My son never liked school or work. He used to fight a lot with his siblings and friends. He demanded money from me all the time in order to play cards with his friends. If I did not give, he used to threaten me by saying that he would run away from home. My husband is an alcoholic – this was strongly disliked by my son; Due to all these factors, my son left home.

Now, he has come back home after almost 2 years. He had never called up during this period.

He has changed a lot for good. He talks to his father and me with utmost respect. He requested his father not to consume alcohol, but the father did not agree.

Nevertheless, my son told me that he is ready to endure any hardships at home, but will never quit home again. It has been 8 months since he returned and he is continues to be at home. He has quit the bad habits and bad company he earlier had. At free time, he does small jobs and gives me the money.

He appears to be more focused on doing a job in future. Sathi is sponsoring his education and he will be writing his 10th class exams next year.

My son has become the pillar of the house in spite of my husband not being supportive to the family.”
